Officer Randy Melton,(ret) is a 32-year veteran of law enforcement and has been a departmental "Deaf and Hard of Hearing Liaison" for over 17 years. Officer Melton presents to over 2,000 law enforcement personnel annually. His dedication to law enforcement has brought him numerous awards and commendations. Officer Melton's eight-hour presentation "Bridging the Gap Between Law Enforcement and The Deaf/Hard of Hearing" is tailor-made for law enforcement officers. In it he impresses on officers how to understand, relate to and effectively deal with the cultural differences between themselves and the deaf/hard of hearing person. It provides basic information which can be used as a foundation for expanding awareness of the deaf/hard of hearing and related legal issues.
